This recipe is a copycat version of the Oreo Dream Extreme Cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory. The bottom layer is a fudgy chocolate cake covered with a layer of chocolate ganache frosting, followed by an Oreo Cookie filled cheesecake and an Oreo Cookie mousse layer. The cheesecake is then topped off with more chocolate ganache frosting. I cannot even describe how good this cheesecake tastes, you will just have to try it out yourself.
I became obsessed with the Oreo Dream Extreme Cheesecake after visiting there while travelling in 2015. Since there are no Cheesecake Factory locations near me, I decided that I needed to recreate this heavenly dessert at home.
The Oreo Dream Extreme Cheesecake has a number of different layers which are made separately and then assembled during the last step. Each layer is relatively easy to make but it can be time-consuming to assemble the entire cake. So a word of warning, set aside plenty of time when you make this cake and it is best to make it a day ahead of when you want to serve it. For me, is totally worth the work since my alternative would be driving a 20-hour round trip to get to the nearest Cheesecake Factory restaurant!
If you want to cut down on the labour, you can take a couple of shortcuts such as using a cake mix for the base layer or just using a regular oreo cookie crumb crust. You could also use store bought chocolate frosting instead of making your own chocolate ganache.
Oreo Dream Extreme Cheesecake wins hand down as the most decadent thing that I have ever made. I don’t even want to know how many calories are in a single slice. What is your favorite guilty dessert?

An outrageously decadent Cheesecake Factory copycat recipe!
Ingredients
Chocolate Cake Layer:
- 4 ounces semisweet chocolate
- ½ cup butter, softened
- ¼ cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- ¼ cup flour
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
Chocolate Ganache Frosting:
- 8 ounces (1 cup) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup granulated white sugar
Oreo Cheesecake Layer:
- 16 ounces (2 packages) cream cheese, at room temperature
- ⅔ cup white sugar
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- ⅓ cup sour cream, room temperature
- ⅓ cup heavy cream, room temperature
- 2 tablespoons flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 20 Oreo cookies
Oreo Cookie Mousse Layer:
- 1 package of gelatin or 1 tsp of gelatin
- ¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons cold milk
- 1 cup heavy cream or whipping cream
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 15 Oreo cookies, crushed
Instructions
Chocolate Cake - Bottom Layer:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a 9-inch pan by placing a parchment circle on the bottom and greasing the sides and top of the parchment paper.
- Melt the chocolate in the microwave and set aside to allow it to cool to room temperature.
- Cream the butter and sugar on low.
- Add one of the eggs and beat until incorporated. Add the melted chocolate and mix well. Add the second egg and beat until completely incorporated.
- Add the flour and baking soda until all the ingredients are moistened. Do not overmix.
- Bake for 20 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Be careful not to overbake or the cake will be dry.
- Allow the cake to cool and release it from the cake pan.
Chocolate Ganache Frosting:
- Microwave the heavy cream for approximately 3 minutes or until the heavy cream reaches a boil. Pour it over the chocolate chips and allow them to sit for 2 minutes. Then stir the ganache until all of the chocolate chips are completely melted and the ganache is smooth.
- Add the sugar and mix until the sugar is dissolved.
- All the chocolate ganache to cool in the fridge. When ready to use, beat the frosting for 2-3 minutes until becomes spreadable.
- Spread a layer of frosting approximately ¼ inch thick over the cooled chocolate cake layer. Reserve the remaining frosting for the top.
Oreo Cheesecake Layer:
- Preheat the oven to 325 F. Prepare a 9-inch round cake pan by lining the bottom with a parchment circle and greasing the top of the parchment paper and sides of the pan.
- Beat together cream cheese and sugar until completely mixed and there are no lumps. Scrape down the sides of the bowl.
- Add the eggs to the mixture, one at a time and beat until mixed through. Scrape down the sides of the bowl after incorporating each egg.
- Add vanilla extract, sour cream and heavy cream and continue to beat until mixed through.
- Add flour and salt and mix until just combined.
- Pour the cheesecake batter through a wire mesh strainer to remove any lumps.
- Pour ⅓rd of the cream cheese mixture into the prepared pan. Place Oreo cookies in a layer over the cream cheese mixture and pour the remaining cream cheese mixture over top. Spread the cream cheese so that it is an even layer.
- Bake for 60 minutes. Turn off the oven and open the door until cheesecake has cooled completely. Remove cheesecake from oven and once it is completely cooled, release it from the cake pan. Store the cheesecake in the fridge or freezer until ready to assemble the other cake layers.
Oreo Mousse Layer:
- Prepare a 9-inch pan by placing a parchment circle on the bottom and greasing the sides and top of the parchment paper.
- Bloom the gelatin by sprinkling it over the 2 tablespoons cold milk. Let stand for 5 minutes.
- In a chilled bowl, whip cold heavy cream until it starts to thicken. Add in powdered sugar and whip it until it reaches medium firm peaks.
- After the gelatin has bloomed, melt it gently in the microwave or in a small pot on the stove so that it becomes pourable. DO NOT BOIL.
- Add gelatin mixture to ½ cup milk. Add the vanilla extract.
- Gently fold gelatin mixture into the whipped cream mixture. Then gently fold in the crushed Oreo cookies.
- Pour mousse into the prepared pan. Only put enough in the prepared pan to make an even layer that is approximately ½ inch thick.
- Put the pan with mousse into the freezer and let it set. Approximately 1 hour.
Assemble the Cake:
- Place cheesecake layer on top of the chocolate cake and the frosting layer.
- Release the frozen Oreo mousse layer from the pan and place it on top of the cheesecake layer.
- Spread another thin layer of frosting on the top of the cake. You can decorate the cake as you wish with the remaining frosting.
